Closing Your Account

You can close your Silo account at any time from your Account page. Closing is permanent. There is no grace period and no way to reopen a closed account.

Before You Close

Your account must be clear before it can be closed. Three things block closing: A Silo balance. Withdraw all funds to your wallet first. Silo cannot close an account with money still in the vault.

A cash out in progress. Wait for it to complete. A payroll run in progress (Business accounts). Wait for it to finish. If any of these apply, Silo shows you what is blocking the close and where to resolve it.

How Closing Works

Open Close account at the bottom of your Account page. Silo shows you what closing means, then sends a verification code to your account email. Entering the code closes the account. You are signed out, and a confirmation email is sent. There is no waiting period. The account is closed the moment the code is accepted.

What Happens to Your Username

Your username is held for one month after closing, then released. After that, anyone can claim it. This matters for people who pay you. Someone who paid your username out of habit after it changes hands would be paying a stranger. The one-month hold covers the period where that is most likely, and senders should always confirm who they are paying. A new owner of your old username inherits nothing from your account: no history, no contacts, no payroll entries.

What Happens to Your Data

Your payment history is no longer accessible to you once the account is closed. Transaction and verification records are retained for the periods required by law, the same as for any active account. Silo does not erase everything on closing, and does not claim to.

Opening a New Account Later

You can create a new Silo account with the same email address after closing. It is a fresh account. No history carries over, and your old username is available only if nobody else claimed it after the hold.
